Applications invited for Welsh Church Act fund

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has helped allocate nearly £25,000 through the Welsh Church Act Fund so far this year and is now inviting further grant applications.

A charitable trust, the Welsh Church Act Fund operates independently of the Council, offering financial support for a wide range of purposes to organisations throughout Cardiff and the Vale.
 
Money might go towards education, maintaining social or recreational facilities, protecting historic buildings, assisting those experiencing hardship and a wide range of other schemes.
 
A refurbishment at Children’s hospice Ty Hafan and a project to help those with Multiple Sclerosis cope with the challenges of Covid-19 are among the applications that have been successful in securing funding in 2020/21.

Cllr Ben Gray, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Social Care and Health, said: “The Welsh Church Act Fund has money available for a variety of philanthropic purposes.
 
“I would urge anyone who belongs to an organisation that may require financial assistance with a project to visit the Council website to see if they might qualify for support.”

The next round of funding will be agreed in January and applications must be received by December 15.
 
It is available to organisations only, not individuals, once every three years and must be for a one-off project.
 
Awards typically range from £100 to £5,000 and 25 per cent matched funding is normally requested.
