Libraries managed by the Vale of Glamorgan

There are four full-time libraries situated around the Vale of Glamorgan

 

  • Barry Library, The County Library, King Square, Barry, CF63 4RW

    Barry library has the largest selection of books in the Vale and an extensive collection of DVDs. Customers can return and check out their own books using a self service checkout. 

     

    The County main reference library and local studies collections are based on the first floor. The library also has:

     

     - An ICT suite 

     - Children and Youth Area

     - Community Room

     - Free computer and Internet access with scanning and printing available

     - Free WiFi

     - Photocopier

     - Fax service

     - Newspapers and magazines

     - Meeting rooms available to hire

     

    Room Hire

    The Philip John Room, Small Community Room, the IT suite and a board room are all available to hire. For more information, including costs and facilities, please visit the fees and charges page.

     

    Accessibility: The library is on two floors. There are automatic entrance doors, a lift and disabled toilet facilities. A hearing loop is installed at each counter. Additional facilities include Zoomtext installed on a number of computers, an adapted computer, a Smartview magnifier and a scanner that will play back the printed word.

    Cowbridge Library is a bright, welcoming and lively space, offering something for all the family. The library boasts an IT suite, a separate children’s area and self-service machines. It also has:

     - A children's area with books and four dedicated PCs

    Llantwit Major Library recently underwent an extensive refurbishment and is now a modern, bright and attractive library offering a warm, welcoming space for all its users. 

     

     - A wide range of books and talking books

     - A colourful children’s area with four dedicated PCs

     - A local history collection

     - Free computer and Internet access with scanning and printing available

     - Free WiFi

     - Photocopier

     - Tables for studying, reading or quiet contemplation

     

    Accessibility: The library is reached by a concrete ramp, with a very slight incline, leading to automatic entrance doors. There is a car park a short walk away. A hearing loop is installed at the counter. There are public toilet facilities.

    Penarth library has a wide selection of books for loan and a large and varied multimedia library, stocking the latest movies and TV shows.

    Accessibility: The library entrance is reached by a ramp or steps. Once inside the building, visitors can use a lift to the first floor and basement. There is a hearing loop at the counter. Limited on street parking is available outside the library.

Community Managed Libraries

There are five community run libraries in the Vale of Glamorgan

Community managed libraries are run by local community groups with support from The Vale's Library and Information Service.

 

  • Dinas Powys Community Library, Fairoaks, The Murch, Dinas Powys, CF64 4QU

    Dinas Powys library has a wide range of books for children and adults, there are 6  computers available with free internet access. The library also has:

     

     - Reference information in hard copy and [online]

     - Talking books and large print books

     - Faxing, photocopying

     - Welsh books

     - Foreign-language learning materials

     

    Why not visit our fantastic newly created café designed by award winning architects and partly funded by the European Union through Welsh Ministers in Dinas Powys library. We serve quality coffee and tea's at reasonable prices. We also serve juices snacks and ice creams. Open the same hours as the library. (last service 15mins before closing)

     

    Accessibility: The library has a small car park. Access to the building is via automatic doors. The library is on one level and there is a low level counter with a hearing loop.

    Rhoose library has a wide range of books for children and adults, there are 4 computers available with free internet access. The library also has:

     - Welsh books

     

    Accessibility: The small car park has a designated disabled parking bay. Access to the building is via automatic doors (using a push pad) and there is a sharp turn right inside a small foyer area. A hearing loop is installed at the library.

    St. Athan library is in the centre of the village, near the post office. The branch has a friendly atmosphere and a good range of popular books and talking books for adults and children.

     

    There are 6 PCs connected to the internet and A4 photocopying services.

     

    Accessibility: The library is reached via a ramp to the entrance door. A hearing loop is installed at the library desk. Parking is available in the lane outside the library. There are no toilet facilities.

  • St Bride's Major Community Library, Village Hall, Southerndown Road, CF32 0SD

    St Bride’s Major library has a great selection of books for all ages and tastes.  Our volunteers make sure that the bookshelves are regularly refreshed from stocks held in Llantwit Major library, so you will always find something new. We also have recycling bags and containers as well as dog poo bags and there are information leaflets about all sorts of services and community groups.

     

    Accessibility: The library is in the Village Hall with no steps to negotiate.  There is a bus-stop nearby and the 303 goes past every hour in each direction.  There is also room to park cars on the roadside.

    Wenvoe is a busy village library well used by the local community for leisure reading. There is a good selection of up to date books and talking books to choose from and these are changed regularly. There is a public PC connected to the internet and an A4 photocopier for public use.

     

    Accessibility: There is ample car parking next to the library. Access to the building is via a slight incline to the front door. There is a hearing loop at the desk and the library has accessible toilet facilities.
