Coast and Countryside

The Vale of Glamorgan has a diverse range of plants, animals and habitats.

 

Our Rangers are responsible for conservation work, on-site maintenance, public rights of way path maintenance, habitat creation, biodiversity recording and delivering an Environmental Education Programme to schools.   

 

Rangers are based at the Heritage Coast Centre, Cosmeston Lakes and Medieval Village and Porthkerry Country Park work across the Vale of Glamorgan.

We can offer a Tithe Barn, other historical buildings or a dedicated meadow for hire as a wedding venue for civil ceremonies, wedding blessings and wedding receptions.

Biodiversity

Biodiversity simply means the variety of life. It includes all living things from the smallest flea to the biggest tree.

 

You will see biodiversity everywhere in the Vale: in town gardens and window boxes, woods, roadsides, open countryside, rivers and coast.

 

The Vale supports a rich and varied wildlife: hedgerows, woodlands, river valleys and coast shape our landscape and provide food and habitat for mammals and birds.

Making Space for Nature

The loss of wildflower-rich grasslands and the wildlife it supports is an issue of public concern. We are committed to tackling climate change and biodiversity loss by making space for nature in the Vale of Glamorgan.

 

The Vale of Glamorgan Council manages a significant amount of grassland. We have an opportunity to restore and enhance these grasslands as habitat for pollinators and other wildlife. We plan to do this through our new approach to managing verges and grassland within the Vale.

Vale Nature Partnership

The Vale Nature Partnership is part of the pan-Wales network to conserve, promote and enhance nature in our local area.

 

The Vale Nature Partnership brings together representatives from a wide range of organisations, local groups and individuals who have an interest in local wildlife and land management. The partnership is open for anyone to join and is responsible for overseeing the delivery of the Vale Nature Recovery Action Plan.

 

Our mission in the Vale is to reconnect people from all across the county with nature. Through partnership working, we aim to engage the public, local community groups and organisations, as well as schools and businesses to take part in practical action for nature in their communities.
