Personal Licence

A Personal Licence permits the holder to authorise the sale of alcohol from a premise that is licensed for the sale of alcohol by retail such as a pub, off-licence or supermarket.

Application Process 

To apply for a Personal Licence applicants must complete and submit application including the following:

  • Relevant application form
  • Disclosure of Convictions and Declaration form
  • Original certificate of the accredited licensing qualification
  • Criminal conviction certificate, DBS certificate or PNC check. Enquire at your local police station
  •  

    Please note that the date of issue of the certificate or searches must be within one calendar month of the date of the Licensing Authority receiving the application. 

  • Prescribed fee
  • 2 passport type photographs, one of which must be endorsed by a solicitor, notary, person of standing in the community or any professionally qualified person with a statement verifying that the photograph is a true likeness of the applicant

Conditions

The licence is portable throughout England and Wales. To apply for a Personal Licence you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or over
  • Not have any relevant convictions as spelled out in the Act
  • Hold an accredited licensing qualification
  • Not have forfeited a personal licence within 5 years of the application

Prescribed fee of £37

 

Offences and Penalties

Personal Licence holders must inform the issuing Licensing Authority of any changes in their circumstances. It is an offence not to do so.
