Business 2 Business in the Vale

Networking is a great way to get your business known, learn new skills and meet other businesses but where should you begin?

There are a lot of very different networking groups or opportunities ranging from free events or membership to thousands per year to access a range of support and events.  How do you know what is right for you?

 Business 2 Business

1. Consider your reasons for joining

Are you looking to directly meet potential clients? Are you looking to meet potential referrers or collaborators?  Are you looking to meet suppliers or distributors?  Do you want to scope out the competition?  Or perhaps your main focus for attending is the social factor?  B2B organisations come in many shapes and sizes and are made up of different people, so defining your need will help you narrow it down in the first instance.

2. Try before you buy!

A number of B2B organisations require you to join and pay an annual membership fee -  however it is worth attending a few to get a feel for them before you join!  Most will allow you to trial a session for free.  There are many different styles and approaches to networking and the offer is variable, but there is likely to be something that suits you best.  This also gives you an opportunity to see what the different packages of support offer and what you would benefit from the most.  Remember you're there to further your business - ensure you use your time wisely!

Some key things to consider are:

  • What is the cost of membership?  Do I have to pay for events as well?

  • Do I know anyone who has attended networking groups?

  • Do they offer business promotion in their offer?

  • How many people usually attend?

  • Is there more of an online focus or meeting in person?
