Vale of Glamorgan
Year 9 Seren learners from St Cyres school and Whitmore High School took part in a STEM event at the Aston Martin Site in St Athan, earlier this term.
The Welsh Government’s Seren programme provides opportunities for the most able learners from year 8-13 to inspire them and achieve their full academic potential.
Pupils took part in a guided tour of the manufacturing site, gaining hands on experience of problem-solving tasks and workshops. Insightful talks from inspiring young women in their third year of their degree apprenticeship programs about their journeys and what it’s like working for Aston Martin in the Vale were delivered to the group.
It was great to see a 50/50 split of male and female pupils interested in engineering, and the different engineering related careers they could get into. Aston Martin lead engineers, Grace Lewis and Dan Marshall, are also See Science STEM Ambassadors who pulled the programme together, in collaboration with the Vale Seren Academy.
