The trees – which are the first to be planted within the street scene in many years – can be found along various streets around the town – including Beach Road, Plymouth Road, Victoria Road and on Victoria Square.

This work forms a part of the Council’s plans to increase tree canopy cover on Council land over the next 15 years.

Planting these new trees also aligns with Project Zero - the Council’s plan to become carbon neutral by 2030 - and involves working in partnership with local landowners and conservation groups such as the Penarth Tree Forum.

Cllr Mark Wilson, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Building Services, said: “These new trees are being planted to replace the historic ones that once adorned streets and green spaces in and around Penarth.

“Tree planting and rewilding is important work that furthers our Project Zero plans to drastically cut Co2 emissions before the end of the decade as well as increasing biodiversity in the area.”

Work to plant even more trees around the town is underway, with planting expected to continue until the end of March once the historic tree stumps are removed.
