The new additions – manufactured by Romaquip – are the latest step in the Council’s vehicle replacement programme.

Cllr Mark Wilson, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Building Services, said: “It is great to see these 100 per cent electric vehicles join our kerb-side fleet.

“The vehicles are a key part of the Council’s Project Zero strategy to become a carbon-neutral authority by 2030.Electric Recycling Vehicles

“As a Council, we are working at a pace to reduce our carbon footprint and make positive changes considering the ongoing climate and nature emergencies.

“We anticipate that there will be a 49 per cent saving in fuel costs because of the change, as well as a 74 per cent carbon saving.

“Introducing electric vehicles to our recycling fleet not only helps reduce carbon emissions from everyday operations, but also demonstrates our commitment to providing residents with an effective service, whilst keeping it sustainable.”

The vehicles were also partially funded by a grant that was awarded by the Welsh Government to aid the transition from diesel to electric vehicles, as the Council moves towards decarbonisation.
