Vale of Glamorgan
The new strategy recognises trees as a vital part of the Vale’s Green Infrastructure, helping to define the character of our communities and enhance the places where we live, work, and visit.
It comes after a significant public consultation on the plans last year, which was then used to inform the final version of the Tree Strategy.
Cllr Mark Wilson, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Building Services, said: “We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Vale’s new tree strategy for the next 15 years. “This is not just about planting new trees – but it is a thoughtful plan around how we also protect and preserve our current tree stock as well as ensuring that the trees are in locations suited to their long-term health and environment. “The Council has declared both climate and nature emergencies in recent years, and the implementation of the new tree strategy is a key strand of our wider Project Zero work to protect the environment, enhance biodiversity across the Vale, and lower carbon emissions. “We are also committed to improve tree canopy in urban areas and have started planting trees in these settings, and will continue to do where it is appropriate and feasible to do so.”
