The footpath, which was funded through Welsh Government’s Safe Routes in Communities Grant, was constructed over the Summer to enhance safety and encourage more pupils and parents to walk, scoot, or cycle to school.

The Council has been awarded funding by Welsh Government specifically to promote and improve opportunities for active travel within the local area.

In collaboration with Sustrans, a UK based “walking, wheeling and cycling” charity, initial designs for the footpath were drafted by the Council last year. Following the receipt of funding in January, construction took place over the summer.

Councillor Bronwen Brooks, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Places, said: “As a Council we are aiming to promote active travel, such as walking and cycling, for everyday journeys.

“I look forward to seeing how this new footpath encourages parents and pupils to walk, scoot or cycle to school.

“Embracing more active forms of travel not only boosts health and wellbeing but also benefits the environment.

“This aligns perfectly with the Council’s Project Zero commitment to become carbon neutral by 2030.

“The collaboration between the Council and Sully Primary School has been key in the development of the new footpath.

“Thank you to the Active Travel, Parks and Engineering Teams for their joint efforts on this project."
