Another 53 new council houses are ready for tenants
The Vale of Glamorgan Council has completed a development of 53 new council homes on Hayeswood Road in Barry.
This project is part of a long-term plan to increase the number of council houses as the Authority looks to address soaring demand for this type of accommodation.
It follows in the footsteps of other council housing schemes at Llys Llechwedd Jenner, Lon y Felin Wynt and Clos Holm View.
The development consists of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties built on land acquired by the Vale of Glamorgan Council from Welsh Government.
Cllr Lis Burnett, Leader of Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “The Council is committed to tackling the housing crisis being experienced around the Country by developing sites like Hayeswood Road.
“The number of people requiring accommodation like this has increased sharply since the pandemic and is an issue we are working hard to address.
“This is the latest project of its kind to be completed in Barry where need is at its greatest and other sites are also nearing completion
“It features top quality properties that provide comfortable modern homes for people to live.”
Located on land near Atlantic Trading Estate and adjacent to the previous small development at Hayes Road, Hayeswood Road offers residents energy efficient new homes constructed to the highest specifications suitable for families, couples and single people.
While the Council has, over recent years, delivered a number of schemes this is the first project that the Authority has self delivered retaining existing subcontractors and directly appointing others from the local community to complete it to the highest standard and support the local economy..
The Council is currently on site building new homes at the site of the former Colcot Clinic, Coldbrook Road East and a second phase at Clos Holm View, Barry, which will be ready for new tenants over the coming months.
