Carers Rights Day: Supporting Our Carers in the Vale
The Vale of Glamorgan Council recently marked Carers’ Rights Day, shining a spotlight on the incredible work carers do across the County and beyond.
This year, the theme of this national event, held on November 21, focused on helping carers understand and recognise their rights.
Across Wales, over 310,000 unpaid carers provide vital support to partners, family members, or friends. Many don’t see themselves as carers and are often unaware of the rights, benefits, and support available to them.
In fact, half of all carers identify simply as people helping loved ones, not realising they qualify for important legal rights and resources. This lack of awareness can leave many feeling isolated or unsupported.
Carers Rights Day plays a crucial role in changing that. It’s an opportunity to connect carers with the support networks, advice, and assistance they deserve.
Cllr Eddie Williams, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: “At the Vale of Glamorgan Council, we are committed to raising awareness and ensuring carers—whether they realise their role or not—know they are not alone and can access the help they need.
“There is a range of support for people in this position and I would encourage anyone to get in touch to find out more.”
