Age Friendly Vale OfficersThe PSB brings together senior leaders from public and third sector organisations across the Vale of Glamorgan, including the Vale of Glamorgan Council, to work in partnership for a better future.

In October 2023, the Vale of Glamorgan became the fourth Local Authority area in Wales to be awarded Age Friendly Status by the World Health Organisation. The status was awarded in recognition of the serious commitment of partners and older people working together to ensure the Vale is a place where people of all ages are supported to live and age well, especially those aged 50 and over.

The next step in the PSB’s journey is to develop an Age Friendly Action Plan, which is being developed by the Age Friendly Vale Network. The network consists of PSB representatives, third sector organisations, community groups, and older people who work together to ensure the Vale is a fair and better place for older people to live and work.

St. Athan StrollersThe Age Friendly Vale Network is asking for feedback in shaping the actions for the Age Friendly Vale Action Plan (2025 – 2028) and has launched a consultation, which runs until Sunday, August 11 and includes a short survey.

The draft Plan sets out the areas of focus for the next three years in line with the Age Friendly Charter which focuses on eight key areas including: transport, housing, health services, respect and social inclusion.

Cllr Ruba Sivagnanam, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Community Engagement, Equalities and Regulatory Services, said: “Ageing affects us all, and as we grow older it’s so important that the place we live caters to our physical, social, and mental needs.

“The Age Friendly Action Plan is an important piece of work which reflects a range of services which both the Council and our PSB partners deliver such as transport, housing, and healthcare.

“This is an opportunity for everyone to have their say on which actions should be prioritised and how we can ensure that we are best serving the needs of our older residents.”

50 plus forum eventPaper copies of the survey are available in community venues including Barry Library, Penarth Library and Cowbridge Library.

The network is also running a number of Community Feedback Sessions across the county to provide residents with an opportunity to share feedback face to face:
