Three bus stops are set to be improved by the Vale of Glamorgan Council to meet the growing need for public transport in the area.

This has been made possible due to funding from the Welsh government’s Local Transport Fund.

The selected works have been chosen in order to enhance the Active Travel scheme currently being progressed by the Council in Rhoose Village centre.

Two locations have been chosen for Fontygary Road, with a further site located at Rhoose Station.

The bus stop at Rhoose Station will provide an improved facility for the Cardiff Airport Rail Link Service 905.

In addition to these three bus stops in Rhoose, the funding from Welsh government is also being used to upgrade a further eleven bus stops in Barry, Dinas Powys, Penarth and St Athan, complete with new shelters.

Works will also include repairing, repainting existing bus stops and upgrading many stops with solar-powered information displays and e-displays and new bus stop flags.

This follows previous upgrades to bus services throughout the Vale.

Councillor Bronwen Brooks, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Sustainable Places said: “I wholeheartedly welcome the bus stop improvements planned for Rhoose and other areas. Having an efficient integrated public transport infrastructure helps support the local economy as well as benefitting the environment by being a more sustainable way to travel.

“Bus services play such an important role in our community to help keep people connected. They’re also important for implementing the Council’s Project Zero plans to become carbon neutral by 2020.”
