Flying Start Family Fun Day a huge success
The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Flying Start team hosted a family fun day at Penceodtre park in Cadoxton on 26 July.
The team collaborated with over 40 services and organisations including the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Youth Service, Libraries, Communities For Work, Families First Advice Line, Early Help and Healthy Living teams, to deliver a free fun-filled day for families to enjoy.
The activities included arts and crafts, inflatable fun, magic, Archery, face painting, and Virtual Reality.
The day also provided an opportunity for stallholders to raise awareness of the many free services available in the Vale to support families.
The Flying Start scheme is a Welsh Government Early Years programme that supports families and improve children’s development, health, and wellbeing. The service comprises of four entitlements which provide childcare, health visiting, parenting programmes and speech and language development.
Kathryn Clarke, Flying Start Manager said: “We have held a free family fun day for a number of years, and remain thankful to all the agencies who support us in delivering this for the families in the Vale.
“The rain stayed away for most of the day, and it was lovely to see the children and their parents/carers engaging with all the activities provided.
“A huge thank you to everyone involved in the day, and especially Claire Urch – Flying Start Early Years & Childcare Manager and Claire Haydon – Safety Officer for co-ordinating this successful event”.
You can find more information about family services and support on the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s website.
The event is just one of many activities available for young people this summer. The Council’s Family Information Service has collated a calendar of free and low-cost summer activities suitable for children and young people up to the age of 25.
