Support event taking place at Fontygary Leisure Park
A range of support services will attend an event at Fontygary Leisure Park as part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Warm Welcome initiative.
The event, which runs from 11am to 1pm on Tuesday, will take place in the bar area and is open to all, though there will be a particular focus on those aged 50 and over.
Age Connects, the Community Health Council, Pobl, Hafod, Age Friendly Vale and Vale 50+ Strategy Forum will all be in attendance to offer advice on topics including housing, health and financial entitlements.
Free tea and coffee is available, and people are welcome to attend without speaking to any of the agencies.
This event forms part of the Council’s broader Warm Welcome initiative, which aims to assist residents during the cost-of-living crisis.
A range of spaces have opened up across the Vale to offer a warm and inviting place for people to come together at no cost.
There they can enjoy a range of activities, should they wish, and access cost of living support.
Cllr Lis Burnett, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “During autumn and winter, we have not only looked for ways in which we can help residents through a period of significant financial pressure, but also find a way to bring our communities together.
“Around 40 locations now provide a Warm Welcome to residents, offering cooking classes, children’s activities, craft sessions and more, all alongside the chance to have a warm drink in a warm space.
“This event at Fontygary will allow people to access specific support and guidance for over 50s, although anyone is welcome to pop in just for a cup of tea.”
All of the locations offering a Warm Welcome in the Vale of Glamorgan are free to access and activities are spread across seven days. Each location offers a different opportunity to enjoy some company, get involved in an activity, and take advantage of the facilities available.
Details on what is on offer at each location can be found as part of the Cost of Living Support Hub on the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s website. The Hub also provides information on cost-of-living support grants and how to access advice and assistance from the Council and a range of partners.
