Barry Market Reopening a Big Success
The new market at Kings Square in Barry Town Centre was unveiled on Sunday 5 February and saw attendees flock to visit the new stalls.
The market is an initiative of the Vale of Glamorgan Council to encourage more people to shop in the town centre and to increase the vibrancy of the town. Cllr Bronwen Brooks, Deputy Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council attended the first market day to see the selection of stalls.
Green Top Events Ltd which now operates the market had a diverse range of good quality stalls including butchers, fruit and veg, a bakery, crafts and more.
The colourful well-coordinated market was busy throughout the day attracting a lot of additional footfall to the town centre. Some of the local shops said that they had seen a lot of new faces shopping in the town centre.
There was seating available on the square for people to sit and enjoy the food purchased from the various new market stall.
Cllr Bronwen Brooks, said: “I’m very pleased to see that a market has returned to Barry Town Centre.
“It’s wonderful to see such a range of vendors, from traditional market stalls to street food for people to enjoy.”
“Hopefully the new iteration of the market will be successful and attract more people to visit the area.”
Graham from Num Nums, a local Barry bakery company that has a stall on the market said that: “It’s very encouraging to see a market return to Barry. It’s been a success for my business.”
The company are trialling different days and opening hours for the market, with the next one being held on Friday 24February and several stallholders are already signed up to take part.
