Council and Legacy Leisure fund youth events programme
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is working in partnership with Legacy Leisure to run a range of youth activity events.
Funded by the Council, some of these sessions run during the summer holidays, with others extending much further into this year and the next.
They are being organised by Legacy Leisure, the Council’s Health Living team and Youth Service, along with local sports clubs.
The aim is to increase health and wellbeing among younger members of the community, with children aged between 14 and 18 identified as particularly adversely affected by the pandemic.
Sessions available include fitness, swimming, basketball, golf, boxing football, dance and more, and are targeted at a range of age groups over 11.
They will take place at Barry, Penarth and Llantwit Major leisure centres as well as a variety of other indoor and outdoor locations across the Vale.
A full schedule of events is available on the Council’s Sports Development webpage.
Cllr Gwyn John, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Wellbeing, said: “The Council has a close working relationship with Legacy Leisure, the company responsible for operating our leisure centres. This is the latest example of the two organisations coming together to offer opportunities for residents to improve their health and wellbeing.
“This is a top priority for the Council, as is supporting our young people, many of whom have been significantly impacted by the coronavirus outbreak and all the disruption that caused.”
