Belle Vue Community Centre hosts launch event
Vale of Glamorgan Council Leader Lis Burnett, Cabinet Member for Leisure Sport and Wellbeing, Gwyn John and Chief Executive Rob Thomas were among those to attend an open day at the newly upgraded Belle Vue Community Centre.
Held between 10am and 4pm on Wednesday, there was an opportunity for people to view the facility and express an interest in using it for community activities and events.
Work to revamp the building began in June last year and involved demolishing the old pavilion before constructing a new modern replacement.
Friends of Belle Vue Park, a local group invested in the location, and the bowls club that are based there have been heavily involved in the project, which was part funded by the National Lottery.
The community centre contains three large rooms, which are available for hire, a kitchen, male and female changing rooms and a fully accessible changing space for disabled users.
This is the third such changing space in the Vale, with others at Cosmeston Country Park and on Barry Island, and has been fitted with an accessible toilet and shower, hoist and plinth, meaning people with additional needs can also use the centre.
Work to upgrade the nearby play area has also been completed and that now also includes a range of accessible equipment.
The Council’s Big Fresh Catering Company will operate a café from the community centre site, building on the success of a similar operation at Penarth Pier Pavilion.
Cllr Lis Burnett, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “A lot of hard work has gone into transforming Belle Vue Pavilion into a modern space for the whole community to enjoy.
“It was great to see the new building, which we hope can be a real hub for the local area. I would invite anyone interested in possibly hiring the building for their activity to get in touch to see what it has to offer.
“There are different rooms available, and an on-site café offering high quality drinks and snacks.
“The building is fully accessible and suitable for a range of different classes, meetings and events.”
Anyone who may want to hire the can arrange a viewing by emailing BelleVue@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk.
To confirm a booking, detailed information about the type of activity proposed will be required, along with the day and time requested and full contact details for the respective organisation and individual.
Hire prices will start at around £20 per hour depending on the proposed use and the amount of space required.
