Vale of Glamorgan
The benches feature a special commemorative design of soldiers and poppies, as well as a personalised plaque. Both councils funded a bench each, with the Vale of Glamorgan Council also covering the cost of installation.
The benches were designed and manufactured by David Ogilvie Engineering Limited, based in Scotland.
Cabinet members Cllr Mark Wilson and Cllr Margaret Wilkinson, and Veterans Champion, Cllr Ian Buckley, were joined by other members of both Barry Town Council and The Vale of Glamorgan Council.
Cabinet Member for Neighborhood and Building Services, Cllr Mark Wilson: “These benches are a welcome addition to the gardens, which are peacefully enjoyed by so many residents. As Remembrance Day approaches, it is important for us to celebrate the heroes who fought for our country and freedom. “I was honored to attend today’s official opening and support this fantastic initiative.”
