Frampton StreetlightsSue Roscrow, who lives in the village, asked for lighting to be introduced to the previously unlit area for safety reasons.

Mrs Roscrow felt that it was an area where people might be uncomfortable walking in darkness.

Frampton Lane already has a system of street lighting between the junction of Llanmaes Road leading to the residential properties at Heol Pentre’r Felin.

This will now be extended up to the residential footpath by Clos y Wiwer, with work also including the creation of a new road crossing.

The streetlights will feature LED bulbs, which are more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

Cllr Peter King, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services and Transport, said:

“While we are not aware of anyone encountering problems on this section of Frampton Lane, we want everyone in our communities to feel safe when out after dark.

“Mrs Roscrow raised concerns and as a result we have extended streetlighting provision in this area of Llantwit Major.

“I hope this will boost residents’ confidence when walking at night and help reassure them that Llantwit Major is an extremely safe place to live.

“The lights installed with feature LED bulbs, which are much better for the planet. This underlines our Project Zero commitment, which aims to make the Council carbon neutral by 2030.”
