Vale of Glamorgan
The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Electoral Registration team ran a competition encouraging Vale pupils to register to vote.
Lowri Yapp from Westbourne School and Samuel Lonney and Jasmine Eastman from St Cyres Comprehensive School all registered to vote this year and were automatically entered into the competition.
They were presented with their iPad’s on Friday 17 June.
The campaign is aimed at encouraging more young people to register to vote. The Vale of Glamorgan currently has one of the highest registered populations at 62.6% percent of 16-18 year olds.
Cabinet Member for Community Engagement, Equalities and Regulatory Services, Councillor Ruba Sivagnanam said: “This is a fantastic initiative set up by the Council’s Electoral Registration team. Now that 16-year olds can vote in the Senedd elections, it’s more important than ever that young people register to have their voice heard; it only takes five minutes, and all you need is your National Insurance number.
