Man fined £913 for fly tipping in Leckwith
A man has been fined £913 for a Fly tipping incident on Woodlands Lane, Leckwith near Penarth.
The offender had failed to pay the fixed penalty notice of £400 which had been initially issued by investigating officers. 
He was then summoned to attend court but failed to attend. An arrest warrant was issued prior to the court hearing.
The offender has pleaded guilty to the offence and admitted to fly-tipping a number of green bin bags. His fine has now been increased to £913.
Vale of Glamorgan Council investigate reports of fly-tipping and have a number of measures to bring offenders to justice. These include re-deployable hidden CCTV cameras with night vision capability.
Vale of Glamorgan residents also provide CCTV and dash camera evidence which can be used to prosecute offenders.
Following Vale of Glamorgan investigations, the court has recently issued several warrants for the arrest of suspects who have failed to attend a court summons, having failed to pay their fixed penalties.
Vale of Glamorgan council regularly issue fixed penalties of £100-£400 for fly-tipping, littering, dog fouling and waste management offences. Where offenders fail to pay the fixed penalty, court action will follow.
Cllr Peter King, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services and Transport said:
“Our environmental enforcement officers do a fantastic job of regularly patrolling known hotspots for fly-tipping.
“For everyone’s health and safety, we all have a duty of care to ensure that we dispose of our waste responsibly. Fly-tipping causes considerable damage to the environment, the economy and local communities.
“It’s important to remember that fly-tipping is a crime and therefore anyone that is caught committing this type of offence could face serious consequences. We take this matter extremely seriously.”
The consequences of being caught fly-tipping can include being issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice, prosecution, fines of up to £50,000 or even imprisonment.
There have been several arrest warrants issued following investigations into fly-tipping by the Council.
