Central Park Play AreaAfter holding a public consultation, the Council began work to transform Central Park play area into a fun, interactive space for children of all ages to enjoy.

The play area’s new rubber surfacing has been decorated with seaside and road graphics in line with the parks’ new seaside town theme.

Arranged around the town layout is a series of new equipment, including two multi-units, swings, slides, and an activity trail.

The new park also accommodates inclusive equipment and

sensory features such as a sound play unit and a wheelchair accessible roundabout.

During the renovation, works were also carried out to upgrade the existing multi-use games area at the park.

The refurbishment of the play area is the last phase of a series of improvements in Central Park which is now a modern family attraction in the town centre.

Previous works have seen the outdoor sports courts upgraded, public realm improvements and the installation of a SONA interactive unit.

The works have been funded using Section 106 contributions, which are payments made by construction companies as part of the conditions of development.

Cllr Kathryn McCaffer, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture, said: “It’s great to see the results of the recent regeneration works at Central Park.

“The new equipment and exciting new look will again make Central Park a fun space for children to enjoy outdoor play.

“I hope that the new facility will be well received by families in Barry and enjoyed by children for years to come.”
