First look at designs for a new skatepark at Cold Knap

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has secured a contract with specialist skatepark provider, Bendcrete Leisure Ltd. to design and build a new skatepark at Cold Knap, Barry.

In partnership with Richard Taylor Memorial Fund and Sports Wales, £330,000 was secured in March for the development of a new bespoke, freeform concrete skatepark to replace the existing Richard Taylor Memorial Skatepark.

The current facility opened in 2007 as a memorial to Richard John Taylor, a Barry-based professional British Champion Skater, funded by the Richard Taylor Memorial Fund Charity.  Richard’s family have since worked closely with the Council and are a key stakeholder in the park’s further development. 

The initial plans for the new facility have now been drawn up and later in the year, the Council will be holding a public consultation, giving residents an opportunity to view the design proposals and offer their opinions to ensure that the new facility meets the needs of the community.

“The new facility will reflect the heritage of the park while continuing Richard’s legacy into the future.

“I hope that the new provision will again become a focal point for the skating community and inspire the next generation of skaters.”
