On 6 April the law changed in England and Wales to allow outdoor weddings and civil partnerships at licensed venues.West Farm 1

Initially introduced in July 2021 as a temporary change due to Covid-19, this has now been rolled out permanently, largely due to overwhelming support from the public, faith groups and the wedding industry.

The Vale, due to the beauty of its natural environment, has a large number of venues for outdoor weddings and civil partnerships.

The Council’s Registration Service, Your Vale Ceremony, is spending the month of April promoting the array of outdoor spaces available for hire across the County.

This includes popular sites in Llantwit Major, Penarth, Barry, Cowbridge, Cosmeston and many more.

New permissions have now been approved to allow for wedding and civil partnership ceremonies at the beach huts at Barry Island. Venue hire for a beach hut wedding is £750 which consists of two huts side-by-side for the duration of the ceremony.

This follows the successful unveiling of a brand-new website featuring an online ‘Ceremony Portal’ which allows you to register, personalise and preview the ceremony online by selecting and amending features such as vows and poems.

The website allows you to view a list of featured venues, approved suppliers and even pay for your registration online.

In addition to the online promotion via social media, staff from the Registration Service will be at the Beach Huts in Barry from 22 to 24 April to provide information, answer questions and take bookings.

Rachel Protheroe, Registration Service Manager and Superintendent Registrar said: “Weddings and Civil Partnerships are some of the most important and memorable events in a person’s life and this is a welcome change which will provide couples with greater flexibility.

“The Vale has some fantastic outdoor spaces and provides unique settings to hold these events, from historic buildings, gardens and even right by the seafront.”
