Vale of Glamorgan
Police officers will be situated at entrances to Cosmeston and Porthkerry Country Parks, Ogmore-by-sea, Barry Island and Penarth Esplanade as well as other resorts in the area.
Officers will be stopping those travelling in cars and issuing on-the-spot fines if they have travelled from outside the local area and do not have a legitimate reason to travel in a vehicle.
Signage will be in place to warn visitors of enforcement presence. This is a result of reports of groups gathering and people travelling by car to visit these locations.
Neither of these activities are permitted under current measures put in place to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
Cllr Neil Moore, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “Alert Level 4 restrictions have now been in place since before Christmas and the legislation is very clear. Members of the public should only leave home if they have a reasonable excuse to do so. “Whilst exercise is permitted and encouraged, this should start and end at home. Only those in exceptional circumstances are permitted to drive to exercise. “We are asking all members of the public to ask themselves whether a car journey to the beach or country park is worth the risk of a fine, or worse, further spreading the coronavirus. “We’ll be working closely with our partners to step up enforcement action this weekend and ensure our communities are protected.”
