Fast Track to Care launched to urgently recruit care workers
A fast track training programme has been launched by the Vale of Glamorgan Council to help fill vacancies across the care sector.
The Fast Track to Care programme has been designed especially for recruits with little or no experience in care. The programme aims to recruit dozens of new carers in the first months of 2022. The scheme will recruit and train staff for more than 20 care providers operating in the Vale, as well as for roles with the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
Cllr Ben Gray, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Health said: “The Vale of Glamorgan, like the rest of the UK, is currently facing unprecedented demand for health and social care services.
“Right now, we are seeing a 30% increase in people needing care at home, compared with before the pandemic. This huge increase in demand has come at the same time as a national shortage of care workers.
“Urgent action is needed to address this.
“We know that a career in care appeals to lots of people, but for many reasons they have held off on making the move. That’s why we are making it as easy as possible for people to move into the sector.
“Our Fast Track to Care programme offers a better package than ever before. New starters will be job ready in two weeks. They’ll receive accredited training and support from a mentor to guide them through their first few months.
“The social care sector has never been in greater need of new carers and there has never been a time when people can make a bigger difference by starting their career in care.”
Recruits to the Fast Track to Care programme will, over the course of two weeks, receive all required training to work in either a home care or residential care role.
Reference, right to work, and DBS checks will be undertaken at the same time.
The first intake will start their training in January. Upon completion Fast Track to Care graduates will be matched with vacancies in the Vale that best suit them, many of which will offer immediate start dates.
