“The scenes on Ogmore beach last night were disgraceful. Those causing disorder showed a complete disregard not only for their safety but that of the community as a whole. The stay local regulations and social distancing guidance are still in effect in Wales yet it is clear many people chose to ignore these. A major clean-up operation is now underway. The car park at Ogmore beach has been closed and will remain so until at least the beginning of next week. As the First Minister has made clear today, actions like this by an irresponsible minority jeopardise the gradual steps out of lockdown that so many people have worked hard to make possible. - Neil Moore, Leader of the Council

“We will continue to work with South Wales Police to identify how best we can manage not only this car park but all our coastal resorts in a way which best supports their approach to enforcement. It would be grossly unfair to all of those local residents and visitors who have enjoyed our beautiful coastline and resorts responsibly this week if we were forced to take more permanent measures to prevent mass gatherings, but this is something we must now consider.” - Rob Thomas, Managing Director
