The Vale of Glamorgan Council is inviting small, medium and large businesses to be part of the new economic initiative.

Supported by the Welsh Government’s Foundational Economy Challenge Fund, the initiative will help support procurement from local businesses and drive local spending, in turn creating stronger supply chains within the local economy to support both businesses and communities.

There are hopes that the fund will also encourage the rise of similar projects across other public sector organisations in Wales.

Project manager, Madeline Sims explained: “We want to ensure our current local procurement policy encourages businesses and sole traders to tender for contracts with the Council.

“We’ll be running a series of workshops, business advice and 1-2-1 business mentoring for 6 months to get more small local businesses bidding for contracts.

“In these difficult times the Council can offer some certainty of cash flow to the economy through local procurement and so is keen to support local businesses who are interested.”

Lis Burnett, Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration and Deputy Leader of the Council said: “We already demonstrate a high level of local procurement and community benefits through our 21st Century Schools building programme and I look forward to seeing the organisation work with many more local businesses to make tendering and procurement as streamlined as possible.

"We’d like to see many more SMEs in the Vale being awarded contracts to work with us and with other Public Sector Organisations in Wales.

“We’re delighted that the Welsh Government has supported the bid as part of the Challenge Fund.”
