Join the conversation for Dementia Action Week

Dementia Action Week takes place between May 20 - 26. The Vale of Glamorgan Council will be supporting the cause, and invites you to attend one of the many events being held across the Vale.

Many of us worry about ‘saying the wrong thing' to someone with dementia, yet a friendly face or a listening ear can make the world of difference.

So, this Dementia Action Week, we pledge to take action, unite our communities and start talking about dementia at one of the Vale’s many open events.

The goal of Dementia Action Week is to encourage people to improve the lives of those affected by dementia, and work to create a dementia-friendly UK where those with dementia do not feel excluded.

Dementia Friendship Café - May 16

Come along for friendship, a great cuppa and fun!

Held at Trinity Church, Stanwell Road, Penarth, CF64 3EN. The Café will run between 10am-12noon and is open to all. No need to book – just come along on the day, there is a nominal charge of 50p for a cup of tea/coffee.

Barry Big Info Event - May 21

Drop in to Golau Caredig between 10am-1pm for tea, coffee and cake.

There will also be Lots of information stalls including Carers Wales, Age Connect, Day Centre Services, Vale Library Service, Mental Health Services for Older People and Solicitors Advice.

Fundraising Event at Rondel House - May 20-24

Join staff and residents for a week of refreshments, activities and entertainment!

Events will run between 10.30am-11.45am, and 1.30pm-2.45pm.

Cartref Porthceri - May 22

Cartref Porthceri have organised an afternoon tea, cake and raffle sale for which will start at 3.00pm. All proceeds will go toward resident activities.

Afternoon Tea at Tŷ Dewi Sant - May 22

Tŷ Dewi Sant, Penarth will be hosting an afternoon tea starting at 2.30pm.

We welcome family and friends to join in for some refreshing beverages and delicious nibbles, and to get involved in the conversation.

Information Day at Penarth Library - May 23

Penarth Library will be hosting a free information day between 10am-1pm.

There will be representatives from The Alzheimer’s Society, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Age Connects and many more on hand to discuss how we can improve the lives of those living with dementia.

Fun Day at Southway - May 24

A great way for the whole family to get involved with the conversation!

Southway Care Home, Cowbridge will be hosting the event starting at 11am. Resident’s family and friends are encouraged to join, and are welcome to #AskUsAnything about Dementia.

Forget Me Not High Tea Event - May 26

Tŷ Dyfan, Barry are holding a High Tea event at 3pm.

Get involved and help create a Forget Me Not garden area in which you can discuss building dementia-friendly communities.
