The £75,000 scheme was led by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, with funding also being contributed by the Colwinston Community Hall Association and Colwinston Community Council.

“It is an absolute delight to see local children enjoying these new play facilities.

“Play is a hugely important part of childhood development and the children and young people of Colwinston now have first class, accessible facilities on their doorstep.

“The Vale of Glamorgan Council works hard to ensure the S106 contributions from housing developers are put to the best use and this scheme is a great example of our teams working together with local community groups to ensure we deliver a scheme that meets local needs.” - Cllr Kathryn McCaffer, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture.

“This wonderful new facility adds to the various enhancements the Community Hall Association has been able to make to the village hall and surrounds for the benefit of the local community.

“This project started nearly three years ago when an ex-resident Tim Corry acted as the catalyst to kick off the committee’s actions and has been delivered with huge support from local residents through the various fund raising and consultative events held to raise the committee’s share of funding.

“So, thanks to Colwinston residents and friends who have supported us so magnificently!

“Finally, thanks are also due to the Vale of Glamorgan Council who have guided the committee through the whole process and managed the build programme to ensure we hit our opening plan.” - Alan Horton, Chair of Colwinston Community Hall Association.

The play area is designed to cater for children aged up to 12 years old. In addition to the new equipment, the play area has been completely resurfaced and new seating and bins have been installed.
