To promote compliance with the new Equine ID Regulations, Shared Regulatory Services (SRS) in partnership with the RSPCA, the British Horse Society and B & W Equine Vets, are organising microchipping and passport clinics for members of the public. 

 

Equine Microchipping and Passport Clinic

The first of several clinics to be held will be on 08 August, 9.00am – 5.00pm at:

Equine Identification (Wales) Regulations

On 12 February 2019 the Equine Identification Regulations came into force in Wales.

  • Transfer of ownership of equines

    The existing owner must provide the equine passport at the point of transfer of ownership. 

     

    Before the end of the period of 30 days after the transfer of ownership, the new owner must inform the passport issuing authority of the transfer and the details.

  • Passport and Microchip

    By 31 December in the calendar year of the equine’s birth; or 6 months following the date of the equine’s birth (whichever comes first), the owner must have applied for an equine passport and have a microchip implanted.

     

    There is no longer an exemption for horses born on or before 30 June 2009. 

     

    All equines that fall into this category must have a microchip implanted by 12 February 2021.
