Vale of Glamorgan
Barry
Part of a community programme, the Home Library Service offers residents with mobility problems, caring responsibilities or other issues a service in which a range of titles are brought to them.
Every four weeks a volunteer will drop off a bag of books for the reader and collect the previous month’s supply.
Cllr Bob Penrose, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Learning and Culture, said: “This is a wonderful scheme that offers residents who might not be able to get to their local library the opportunity to enjoy the many books that are stocked there. “Reading is a hugely rewarding pastime and I’m sure a service like this makes a real difference to members of our community who find themselves housebound for one reason or another.”

Books are available in various formats, including large print or as recordings on CD.
All those using the service need to do is give an example of the types of books they like, perhaps by mentioning an author or favourite genre, and the volunteer will do the rest.
Veronica Oakes from Cowbridge said: “I have been using the Home Library Service for two and a half years. I think it’s a treat, it is fantastic. I am more or less housebound and so the service is a great help for me.”
If you would like to take advantage of this service, please call Senior Librarian Melanie Weeks on 02920 708438 for more information.
