Vale of Glamorgan
Assembly Member Jane Hutt and a representative from Alun Cairns’ office were also present as plans for the venue were talked through.
At the meeting, local residents and Councillors emphasised the important role the building plays within the community and Brains indicated they were happy to hear from any party who wished to submit a viable proposal to enable the pub to continuing trading on a longer-term sustainable basis.
The Council had previously considered alternative uses for the site, including affordable housing, on the basis that Brains had been unable to identify a suitable trading partner.
The pub is currently run by a management company, who along with Brains gave assurances that it would not close in the foreseeable future, providing an opportunity for any proposals to be submitted and evaluated.
There will be another meeting in around three months to reassess the situation.
Cllr Andrew Parker, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Housing and Building Services, said: “The Council only considered other uses for this site on the understanding there were no viable alternative proposals for the building to remain open as a pub. If there is a viable way to keep this community pub open, we are fully supportive of that.”
