Land Required for a Gypsy and Traveller Site

Invitation to Submit Candidate Sites - now closed.

This consultation ran from Monday 17 February - Monday 30 March 2020. A report will be presented to the Council's Cabinet in due course.

The Adopted Vale of Glamorgan Local Development Plan 2011 – 2026 (LDP) includes a commitment in the approved Monitoring Framework to identify a suitable site for gypsies and travellers to accommodate the need identified in the Council’s Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment 2016.

The Council is therefore undertaking a ‘Call’ for gypsy and traveller candidate sites and is inviting developers, landowners and other interested parties to identify land to nominate candidate sites for use as a gypsy and traveller site.

The ‘Call’ for sites will be open from Monday 17th February 2020 and will run until 5pm on Monday 30th March 2020.

Each site submitted will be subject to an assessment to determine whether it can satisfy planning policy requirements and is deliverable, for example, having regard to physical and environmental constraints, and infrastructure and access requirements. The proposed site assessment methodology is available to download.

It should be noted that the submission of a site does not confer any status on the site. The Council will not be considering alternative uses for submitted sites, other than for gypsy and traveller accommodation.

Submitted candidate sites will be compiled into a site register which will be publicly available in due course.

Candidate sites should be submitted on the Candidate Site Form available to download below. Paper copies of the form are available from Council’s Dock Office in Barry.
