Pension Credit 

You may be entitled to claim Pension Credit and top up your weekly income if you are over state pension age.

Free support with application process is available from a variety of organisations including Age Cymru, Age Connects and Citizens Advice.

There are two parts to Pension Credit:  

 

Guarantee Credit 

This tops up your weekly income to a minimum level.

 

Savings Credit

This is a bit of extra money if you have some savings or your income is higher than the basic State Pension.

 

 

You may be eligible for one or both parts. 

 

As well as extra income, the payment unlocks a range of other entitlements for those who qualify including:

 

  • Council tax discounts

  • Help with housing costs

  • Free NHS dental treatment

  • Help towards the cost of glasses

  • Help towards transport to hospital costs

  • Cold weather payments

  • Free TV licenses for people aged over 75

 

You may also be eligible for additional financial entitlements including Carer Addition and Severe Disability Addition.

 

You have nothing to lose by applying, and even if you've previously been turned down, it's always worth making a new claim every year. Benefits rates change every year, as can your finances.
