Partnerships

Developing effective partnership working is essential to planning and developing affordable housing provision, better housing services and improving the department as a whole.

 

The Housing Strategy team are part of a number of local, regional and national partnerships:

 

Overarching Housing Forum

The Overarching Housing Forum oversee development in all areas of housing in order to achieve the vision for the Vale of Glamorgan as set out in the Local Housing Strategy (2015 - 2020).

 

  • To develop good quality, affordable and appropriate accommodation to meet identified housing need
  • To ensure existing housing is maintained and fit for purpose and neighbourhoods benefit from renewal schemes
  • To eradicate homelessness and ensure the public have accessible, high quality advice and information on housing matters
  • To develop appropriate housing and support solutions to meet specific needs within the community
  • To work in partnership to make the Vale a safe and healthy place for residents of all ages

 

Strategic Housing Forum

The local Housing Strategy Forum was established in 2010 by the Council and the first meeting was held on the 3rd April. The quarterly meetings are organised and chaired by the Housing Strategy team. Attendees include local authority officers and the Councils Housing Association partners.

South East Wales Regional Housing Forum (SEWRHF)

The South East Wales Regional Housing Forum comprises of representatives from each of the 10 local authority strategic housing sections in the South East Wales region, which includes Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Newport, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Torfaen and the Vale of Glamorgan.

 

The role of the forum is to develop the capacity of the local authority strategic housing and enabling functions, as a means of creating a balanced and sustainable housing market across the South East Wales region.

The Housing Strategy Network exists to represent the views of Welsh local authorities and national park authorities in relation to the strategic housing role of which the primary focus is to ensure that the housing functions of a local authority and services provided by key partners work in unison to -

  • Produce a local housing market that works effectively
  • Create interventions in the housing market that connect with the wider corporate, regional and national agendas
  • Develop an appropriate range of solutions to enable households unable to meet their own needs in the market to access suitable and sustainable housing

 

Representatives on the Network include relevant Officers from each of the 22 local authorities and 3 national park authorities in Wales. Welsh Assembly and Welsh Local Government Association Officers also attend.
