Vale Tablet Loan Scheme

Do you know somebody who is digitally excluded but would like to take the first steps towards getting online? A free loan of one of our iPads, pre-loaded with 4G data, could be the perfect way to get them started.

The Vale of Glamorgan libraries, in partnership with Newydd Housing and Digital Communities Wales, have launched a scheme to offer iPads for loan to library members. This initiative aims to provide those without access to digital devices the opportunity to take their first steps towards connecting online.

All of our tablets come pre-loaded with 4G data. This means that users do not need their own internet connection in order to access websites and online services with the devices. The tablets also come with a selection of apps, hand-picked by our own specialist staff to help users get up and running as quickly and easily as possible.

How does the scheme work?

  • Tablets can be loaned from our branches in Barry, Cowbridge, Llantwit Major and Penarth.

  • Just like library books, loans are free of charge.

  • The default loan period is for two weeks with the option to extend the loan providing no other users are waiting.

  • While you have the device, you have full use of all of its features such as video calling, browsing the internet and downloading and using your own choice of apps.

  • When you bring the device back, the device is wiped of all information before being loaned to the next user.

If you or someone you know would be interested in using this service, please contact your local library branch to arrange a loan.
