In line with Government advice, you should avoid non-essential international travel. If you decide to ignore this advice and book a holiday abroad, you should be aware of the need to self-isolate for a period of 10 days on your return from certain countries (as well as any other requirements in force). Please note that some countries will also require a period of self-isolation in that country which needs to be taken into account when considering booking a holiday abroad.
If you intend to request annual leave that includes international travel, you will need to discuss options with your manager, to cover the 10-day self-isolation period required after your holiday. These include:
• Work from home if this is reasonable and practicable for the role undertaken
• Undertake alternative work at home if this is reasonable and practicable
• Take additional paid annual leave (from your usual leave allowance)
• Take unpaid leave which can be deducted from pay over a period of up to 6 months
• Make up the leave over a period of time (max of 6 months)
• A combination of above to cover the 10 day period
You need to be aware of the implications of any of the above options and your manager will take account of any extenuating circumstances, but you must agree arrangements for this period before booking the holiday.
You are also reminded that any period of sickness absence that immediately follows annual leave must be supported by a fit note.
Please note that this information is the current national guidance which is subject to change and you should check for latest information on the Welsh Government's website.
