Hive Five for Youth Service Meal Success

A group of young people from the Hive Guys – a project run by the Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service Team – have held a special meal for their local community.

The Youth Service Team works with young people in the Vale to develop transitional skills which will support them in their adult lives.

The Hive Guys have worked on a number of accredited opportunities, but currently the main focus of the group has been increasing community engagement with residents who have previously used Warm Spaces.Hive Guys group and elders

They designed an entire menu for the evening – which consisted of a prawn cocktail starter, handmade fish cakes and apple pie for dessert.

A list of fun activities were also on the agenda, including napkin folding lessons and a karaoke session.

Through budgeting, cooking, and planning for the evening, the young people developed valuable life skills while also connecting with the Five Ways to WellbeingBe Active, Connect, Take Notice, Keep Learning, and Give.

Beyond the meal, the project aimed to build intergenerational friendships, improve understanding, and create positive conversations that also supports dementia prevention in the community.
