Occupational Health is due to commence the delivery of this year’s flu vaccinations.
Flu is a highly infectious respiratory illness caused by viruses which change every year. It spreads very easily from person to person and is much worse than a bad cold. Symptoms in a healthy person can be severe, including fever, chills, headaches, aching muscles, a cough, and sore throat.
For those who already have a chronic health condition, the very young and the elderly it can cause serious illnesses such as bronchitis and pneumonia requiring hospital treatment. For some it can unfortunately have life threatening consequences.
Pregnant women are also at high risk because during pregnancy their immune system is reduced so their body accepts the foetus. This means mums-to-be don’t have the immunity they normally have to fight viruses.
It is also recommended that you receive the flu vaccine if you are a main carer of an older or disabled person or have close contacts with an immunocompromised individual.
Please see below the dates Occupational Health is delivering flu vaccinations, also attached is the Flu Consent Form, we would be grateful if you could ensure that these are completed prior to staff attending for their flu vaccinations to ensure an efficient delivery of the vaccination programme.
