Your employee volunteer scheme has landed
Your employee volunteer scheme has landed!
From September, colleagues from across the Council can commit one calendar day per year (pro-rata for part-time staff) to volunteer for a cause of their choice, providing it contributes to our local community.
Volunteering is a way to actively contribute to the well-being of your community and society as a whole. It can provide you with the opportunity to learn new skills or develop existing ones. It is also an opportunity to develop your understanding of the challenges faced by some of your wider community.
Once you have discussed with your manager, you can request a volunteer day through Oracle, much in the same way as you book your annual leave.
There are a number of ways for you to spend your day.
- If you are familiar with a local charity or cause that would benefit from your help, you can make your own arrangements to support them for a day
- We can put you in touch with our friends at GVS who are looking forward to finding volunteering opportunities for our colleagues that match with their interests and values (contact engage@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk)
- Vale of Glamorgan Council will host 4 large scale events per year that will align with objectives in our Annual Delivery Plan including Project Zero and the Cost of Living Crisis
Our 2023 volunteering events!
Knock-Man-Down Wood
28th September
We’ll join our colleagues from Porthkerry Country Park and spend the morning helping with the management of the primrose and wildflower bank. The day will include raking the cut woodland banks and placing in bags. What we collect will be used to create habitat piles later in the year. After lunch there will be the opportunity to help with collecting litter from the surrounding areas.

Santa’s Cause
Week Commencing 11th December
We will be fundraising again this year to purchase Christmas presents for those children supported by our Social Services team. Volunteers will be needed on several days in December to organise and pack gifts. The day will involve sorting and allocating gifts and then packing these ready for distribution. Christmas jumpers are optional but encouraged.
