Speak Out!

Report malpractice in the workplace

Speak out Staffnet tile - ENG

After launching the Speak Out Hub and accompanying promotional campaign last year, we asked staff to complete a survey in order to measure their awareness of the whistleblowing policy and procedure, and willingness to speak out.

We also asked staff to suggest what would help them better understand the policy. In line with this feedback, the policy has been updated and we have enhanced the Speak Out hub and this year’s campaign to include a ‘policy on a page’, summary animation, and the development of an iDev module is in the pipeline.

The Speak Out hub makes it quick and easy for you to report your concerns via an online form, phone line or email (confidentially if preferred).

Speak Out Hub

The Council's whistleblowing policy welcomes all genuine concerns about malpractice within the organisation and treats reported issues seriously. You can find a full list of whistleblowing matters on the Speak Out hub.

Speaking out or 'whistleblowing' has a positive impact on the organisation, protecting the Council's finances and reputation, while keeping colleagues and customers safe.

The Council does not tolerate any harassment or victimisation and will take action to protect those who raise concerns. UK law protects employees from dismissal, harassment, or victimisation if such treatment occurs as a result of having made a whistleblowing disclosure considered to be in the public interest.

How to Speak Out

Firstly, consider if your concern is a whistleblowing matter or a grievance. If you are unsure, you can read more about whistleblowing matters on page 7 of the Council's whistleblowing policy.

Report your concerns using the Speak Out online form, email or phone line (confidentially if preferred).

Alternatively, if you'd prefer, you can report your concerns directly to your line manager.
