Healthy Travel Wales Day
Thursday 28 September marks Healthy Travel Wales day, an opportunity for organisations to showcase how they’re helping people make sustainable journeys.
Across Wales, 60 leading organisations have so far signed up to one of the Healthy Travel Charters.
As a local authority we have, this year, committed to take forward the Level 2 Healthy Travel Charter following completion of the Level 1 Charter.
This means we have committed to a series of actions to help staff and visitors to our sites walk, cycle and take public transport more, to help improve physical and mental health, reduce air pollution, and cut carbon emissions. Charters also encourage flexible working and making the switch to electric vehicles.
Some examples of the steps we have taken include:
-
provided staff discounts on public transport
-
created an interactive map showing walking and cycling infrastructure in the Vale
-
offered a cycle work to scheme to all staff
-
increased the availability of tele-video conferencing
-
introduced ultra-low emission vehicles as part of our pool-car fleet
-
improved bicycle storage and installed showers for staff to use
On Healthy Travel Wales day, we are sharing some of the initiatives we’ve put in place to support people to make cleaner and healthier journeys.
Why not share your walk, cycle, bus, or train journey to work on Thursday 28 September using the hashtag #healthytravelwalesday, and see what others are doing too!
For more information on what we’re doing to meet the Charter commitments please see the Healthy Travel Charter Level 2.
