UK Disability History Month
UK Disability History Month (UKDHM) runs from 16 November to 16 December this year.
UKDHM began in 2009. It is annual event aiming to create a platform to focus on the history of disabled people’s struggle for equality and human rights.
The theme for 2023 is ‘Disability, Children and Youth’. The theme encourages us to look at the experience of disabled children and young people in the past, present, and what needs to be considered for the future.
UK Disability Health Month support the Social Model of disability and campaign to change society to ensure barriers are removed for people and children with disabilities or impairments.
For more information, visit the UKDHM website and view their resources here.
Here in the Vale of Glamorgan Council, we are working hard to launch a disability staff network. We want to call our network ABL, which is the Welsh word for ‘able’. We hope this will provide support to staff with disabilities, guidance to managers, and help shape policies by considering the input of staff with disabilities. For more information and to get involved, please email Elyn Hannah at ehannah@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk
