The Council hosts a recognition event to celebrate the Vale’s Foster Carers

On Wednesday 17th May, the Vale’s Foster Wales team hosted a recognition event at Sully Sports and Social Club to thank and acknowledge every carer who fosters through the local authority.

The event saw each foster carer receive a bouquet of flowers and a certificate for their dedication from Councillor Eddie Williams, Director of Social Services Lance Carver, Operational Manager Karen Conway and Team Manager of the Placements Team, Derek Maclver.

We spoke to Nicky and Graham, who have been fostering for over 5 years:

“It was lovely to have the opportunity to come together with fellow foster carers and other professionals from Children and Young People Services to acknowledge to vital importance of what we all do for the young people in need in the Vale.

“Whilst we know that our efforts are utterly appreciated 365 days of the year it is always most welcome when these are acknowledged at this recognition event when we can take a step out of the hustle and bustle of daily life and celebrate our fostering community together."

The event comes as the Council joins organisations across the country in celebrating Foster Care Fortnight (15 – 28 May). This year’s #FCF23 themes is ‘fostering communities’ and aims to celebrate the positive difference that local authority foster carers have made to children’s lives.

The Foster Wales Vale of Glamorgan team work hard to ensure that foster carers in the Vale are supported, shown appreciation and provided with the necessary learning and development to be the best they can be.
