National Day for Staff Networks
10 May 2023 is National Day for Staff Networks.
The purpose of the National Day for Staff Networks is to highlight the many benefits that staff networks offer their organisations. It also recognises the important work done by staff networks and the incredible value they add to the workplace.
Networks support the employee journey and inspire belonging, bringing together people across the organisation.
This year’s theme is #StayingStrong.
#StayingStrong aims to remind staff networks that standing together with other networks, their allies, and supporters equals power. This is in reaction to a concerning theme in parts of the media and society that questions the value of diversity and inclusion, thus undermining staff networks.
Organisers are asking networks to consider how the #StayingStrong theme applies to three main areas: wellbeing, allyship, and sustainability
Our staff networks:
GLAM

Our network for LGBTQIA+ staff and allies, that:
- works to have a positive impact for LGBT+ colleagues in the workplace;
- raises overall awareness and visibility of its work; and
- provides a social and supportive environment.
GLAM is open to anyone who supports the aims and objectives of the network. If you would like to become a member, please complete our membership form.
The GLAM network is currently undergoing a refresh, establishing new leadership and constitution. Keep an eye out for an update soon.
For more information or to join, please email GLAM.
Diverse

We want to help the Council become an employer of choice for people from diverse communities.
As part of this mission, the group aims to:
- Have a positive impact for colleagues from Black, Asian and global majority communities in the workplace
- Raise overall awareness and visibility of its work
- Provide a social and supportive environment.
Diverse has played an important role in the conversation about race equality in the Council in a constructive and open way, demonstrating that uncomfortable conversations can lead to real change.
Email Diverse for more information or complete a membership form.
Disability Group
Our emerging network for staff with disabilities, staff with family or friends with disabilities, and their allies. If you would like to be involved or for more information, come along to the Disability Network workshop between 2pm and 3pm today (Wednesday 10 May 2023).
The Council work extremely hard to ensure that we offer a safe and enjoyable place for LGBTQ+ people to work and to ensure that the Vale of Glamorgan area is a positive and nurturing environment therein.
If you are concerned about discrimination or harassment, or want more information about how to report it, please refer to the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s grievance policy.
