Vale Primary schools celebrate at the Vale Healthy Schools Celebration Event
On 28 June, the Vale of Glamorgan’s Healthy Schools scheme was celebrated at Memo Arts Centre, Barry.
Co-ordinated by the Cardiff & Vale University Health Board and the Vale of Glamorgan’s Children & Young People’s Partnership team, primary schools attended the event to celebrate the work going on in Vale schools to promote health and wellbeing among our young people.
The Vale’s Healthy Schools Scheme is part of the Welsh Network of Healthy Schools Scheme, that aims to promote and protect the physical, emotional, and social health and wellbeing of children and young people in the Vale through food and fitness, Mental and Emotional Health and Wellbeing, Environment, Safety, Hygiene, Substance Misuse, and Personal Development and Relationships.
After an introduction from Vale of Glamorgan Prevention & Partnership Manager, Mark Davies, Cabinet Member for Education, Arts and Welsh Language, Cllr Rhiannon Birch, and Senior Public Health Specialist, Catherine Perry, a day of presentations and activities began.
Led by Senior Healthy Living Officer, Rachel Shepperd, with the help of pupils from Romilly Primary School, the day kicked off with a ‘Wake up shake up’ and which saw the room on their feet, following a short, fun fitness routine.
Alongside a series of presentations hosted by the Healthy Living team, Vale Youth Service Super Ambassador Scheme, Keep Wales Tidy Eco Schools, Vale Sports Development Team and Designed to Smile with input from a number of schools, various organisations made up a ‘marketplace’ of informative stands.
Pupils were invited to browse the ‘marketplace’ to explore the information and support on offer from Vale of Glamorgan Libraries, Barnardo’s PATH, Rights Ambassadors, Sustainable Communities for Learning, Design to Smile, Eco Schools, Cardiff and Vale Public Health Dietetic Team, Move more eat well/Food Vale, Healthy Schools Team, Immunisations team, Shared regulatory services, communicable diseases team, YMCA young carers, Education support, Bullies out, and the Council’s Healthy Living team.
