Carers Week - 5 to 11 June 2023

Careers Week I CareCarers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities. It is backed by seven major charities.

The theme for 2023 is 'Recognising and Supporting Carers in the Community.

The 2021 Census told us there are 12,923 unpaid carers in the Vale of Glamorgan caring unpaid for an ill, frail or disabled family member or friend. These people would probably say "I'm just being a husband, a wife, a mum, a dad, a son, a daughter, a friend or a good neighbour."

Unpaid carers help with personal things like getting someone dressed, turning them in their sleep, helping them to the toilet, helping them move about or to take their medication.  Unpaid Carers also help with things like shopping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, filling in forms or managing money, supporting emotional and mental wellbeing.

Unpaid carers face huge challenges every day. It’s essential they receive greater recognition and support.

To celebrate Carers Week 2023, we are running a number of events and programmes for unpaid carers:
